Director Pirjo Honkasalo's three-chapter documentary focuses on the harrowing legacy of the war in Chechnya, as seen through the eyes of children. The first segment is set in a military school for orphans, where the young charges learn soldiering skills. Next, the struggles of orphanages in bomb-blasted Grozny are chronicled. The film concludes with profiles of children from both sides of the conflict, revealing lives forever scarred by violence.
