Orphaned at a young age and raised in a convent, Eugenia di Maqueda (Laura Antonelli) believes she's fulfilled her heart's desire when she marries the handsome Raimondo Corrao (Alberto Lionello). But just as the two are about to consummate their union, they discover that they're brother and sister. Now, both Eugenia and Raimondo find themselves in a perpetual state of longing as they try to live as true siblings.
