Young married couple Stig (Stig Olin) and Marta (Maj-Britt Nilsson) are both violinists in a small Swedish orchestra. Though he's fiercely ambitious, Stig doesn't have the talent to be a soloist, and his inability to accept his limitations leads to trouble for the pair. Stig indulges in frequent outbursts and other behavior that soon erodes his loving marriage to the compassionate Marta. Victor Sjöström co-stars in this early Ingmar Bergman film.
