This breathtaking made-for-TV movie inspired by Virginia Woolf's novel of the same name follows the Ramsey family on their annual holiday in Cornwall. The threat of World War I hangs over Europe, and Mrs. Ramsey (Rosemary Harris) presides over her precocious brood, eager to make their vacation pleasant even as her husband (Michael Gough) struggles against the constant togetherness. Kenneth Branagh co-stars as Mr. Ramsey's brilliant student.
