The envy of his friends, car dealer Bernard Barthélémy (Gérard Depardieu) seemingly has everything: a steady job, a nice house and a beautiful wife. But what they don't know is that Bernard is utterly unfulfilled by it all. After beginning an affair with his frumpy temporary secretary, Colette Chevassu (Josiane Balasko), Bernard finds that it's the most satisfying relationship of his life -- but it may cost him everything he has.
