One of the first movies to deal with the Vietnam War, this somber film follows Dennis Hopper as Sgt. Jack Falen, a vet charged with the task of escorting the body of his best friend on a train to California. Visibly haunted by his experiences, Jack is charmed by a beautiful young college student (Taryn Power) he meets on the trip who tries to buoy his spirits. But Jack's emotional battle scars may prove too deep for such easy healing.
