Controversial film pioneer D.W. Griffith lent his directing and writing talents to this pair of well-crafted silent melodramas. Lillian Gish stars as True Heart Susie, a simple, generous girl whose sacrifice for the man she loves (Robert Harron) comes back to haunt her. In Hoodoo Ann, Mae Marsh turns in a compelling performance as a down-and-out orphan who believes she's living under a curse that only true love can break.
