In this tense psychological drama, idealistic student Susan Harper (Hayley Mills) tries to help an emotionally disturbed young man named Martin (Hywel Bennett), who periodically assumes the personality of a 6-year-old boy. But when Susan takes Martin in after he's tossed out by his parents, she discovers that the schizophrenic's idea of friendship is something closer to obsession. Billie Whitelaw won a BAFTA Award as Susan's empathetic mother.
