Amidst the political turmoil of 1989 Bucharest, Romania, Dr. Daniel Pavenic (Michael Gambon) hosts a reunion dinner for friends. Outside, fights between students and soldiers signal the collapse of Ceausescu's regime. Inside, the men discuss life and love. In the process, Daniel reveals his life-long sexual obsession with his housekeeper (Sonia Braga) -- the woman serving their meal -- in this film from director Nicolas Roeg (Walkabout).
