Anton Chekhov's masterwork comes to life in two adaptations by the BBC. Aging Vanya is caretaker of his late sister's farm, now owned by his brother-in-law. The estate, its residents and visitors remind Vanya of better times and missed opportunities. The 1970 version stars Anthony Hopkins, Freddie Jones and Ann Bell; Ian Holm, David Warner, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Ian Bannen headline the 1991 production.
