During the transcontinental railroad's construction, troubleshooter Jeff Butler (Joel McCrea) and his buddy Dick Allen (Robert Preston) end up on opposing sides when Allen partners with a man determined to delay the Union Pacific's progress by any means necessary. Director Cecil B. DeMille's epic Western won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and an Oscar nod for Best Special Effects. Barbara Stanwyck stars as Mollie Monahan, the woman both men pursue.
