Destructive and dangerously violent, 6-year-old Caitlin is labeled psychotic and seems destined for a life of institutionalization. But special education teacher Maggie Barnard (Cathy Lee Crosby) is convinced that beneath the savage exterior of the badly abused girl lies intelligence and promise. As teacher and student forge a special bond, Maggie devotes herself to unlocking Caitlin's potential, even if it means spurning the law.
