In actor-director Manoj Kumar's 1967 Hindi classic, an honorable man gladly sacrifices everything for his selfish younger brother, only to be betrayed. As Bharat (Kumar) tirelessly works the family farm to send money for his brother Puran's (Prem Chopra) schooling, Puran is seduced by the city's glitz and good life and loses his values. When the scheming Puran returns, his greedy actions set in motion a string of tragic events.
