Patricia Smith (Shirley Grey) is madly in love with aspiring doctor Max Silver (Leon Ames), but Max dumps her for a girl who will help him with his career. That leaves the heartbroken Patricia to marry Eddie Doyle (Jack Oakie), a gumball machine salesman with zero prospects. Even though she's married, Patricia is unhappy and still has strong feelings for Max, who has become a highly successful surgeon.
