Hajime Kadoi's drama explores the death penalty in Japan through the story of prison guard Hirai (Kaoru Kobayashi), who, in order to earn money for a much-needed vacation, takes an assignment watching over an inmate (Hidetoshi Nishijima) as his execution date approaches. Director Kadoi crafts a compassionate portrait of Hirai and Kaneda as they count down the moments leading up to Kaneda's execution.
