When the son of elderly business tycoon Shamsher Singh (Dilip Kumar) dies tragically, he rears his young grandson, Kunal (Sanjay Dutt), alone. After the boy grows up, he falls in love with Durga (Padmini Kolhapure), an indigent woman who lives with her mother. Singh disapproves of the relationship and tries to put halt to it, leading to events that expose secrets about Kunal's grandfather and the family's past.
