Voices of a Distant Star

This beautiful anime short was created entirely by one person, Makoto Shinkai, on his home computer. It tells the story of young Mikako, who joins the resistance to fend off an alien race's attack on humans. Sent to the far reaches of space, Mikako can only communicate to his love, Noboru, by cell-phone text messages -- and as time goes on, the messages take longer to travel. Can their love survive the passage of time and the brutal war?
