W.C. Fields Straight Up
(1986)|
Filmmaker Robert Weide won an Emmy for this richly detailed documentary that separates fact from fiction regarding eminently quotable entertainer W.C. Fields. The journey begins with Fields's childhood in Philadelphia and traces his rise to the treetops of the Hollywood jungle. Off-screen, as we discover, his life was less magical; he left his pregnant wife and was forever estranged from his son. Includes rare footage and interviews.
