The "mystic chords of memory" stretch a long way for aspiring politico Fielding Pierce (Billy Crudup). Wracked with guilt at expedient choices he made years before, Pierce (in the middle of a congressional election) begins to see visions of his long-lost love (Jennifer Connelly), who died while assisting members of the Chilean resistance a decade before.
