Fleeing the clutches of an abusive foster parent, orphan Xiao Hua finds safe haven in the home of a kindly old gent who vows to give her everything he has to afford her a better life. But in the face of meager resources, disapproving neighbors and a jealous son and daughter-in-law, the man's good intentions meet more resistance than he expected. Tian Chengren, Zhang Yan, Hai Yang and Yu Weijie provide support in this touching tale.
