One evening, a young stranger attends a dinner party at the home of schoolteacher Jean Travers (Vanessa Redgrave), only to inexplicably go home and kill himself afterward. As the police investigate the mysterious suicide, Jean tries to fathom why it happened -- and cope with the memories of an earlier tragedy in her life involving another young man. Directed by David Hare and costarring Judi Dench and Ian Holm.
