In this character-driven drama based loosely on the 1985 classic Witness, Inspector Lau (Chow Yun-Fat) and his partner (Wong Kwong-Leung) get caught in a shootout while investigating a gang of gunrunners. The lead suspect gets killed in the confrontation, leaving her young daughter as the only witness able to identify the gunman. Lau takes the child to her family's remote farm where he locks horns with the child's aunt (Cherie Chung).
