Vaudeville couple Joe (Jack Oakie) and Kit (Charlotte Greenwood) adopt orphaned performer Wendy (Shirley Temple) and retire to a small town so they can give the girl a proper upbringing. But their new, disapproving neighbors prove to be the toughest audience ever for this plucky showbiz family. The 1940 heart-warmer features 12-year-old Temple near the end of her legendary reign as Hollywood's top child star.
