Herbert von Karajan conducts the Berlin Philharmonic in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D Minor with Wiener Singverein and Lella Cuberli (soprano), Helga Muller Molinari (alto), Vinson Cole (tenor) and Franz Grundheber (baritone). This piece is prototypical of late-Karajan productions, with soloists and instrumentalists strategically backlit and isolated through tight camera shots, few shots of the entire orchestra or chorus, and no audience.
