Jim Carrey
Jim CarreyRubber-faced Jim Carrey was born in Newmarket, Ontario, on Jan. 17, 1962. Despite family hardships, the high school dropout pursued a stand-up comedy career. After a gig at The Comedy Store, Carrey broke into movies, starting with Copper Mountain (1983).

The sitcom "The Duck Factory" led to his starring debut in First Bitten, followed by small roles in Peggy Sue Got Married and The Dead Pool. Carrey's outrageous shtick on TV's "In Living Color" scored with young fans, and by 1994 he was on a big-screen winning streak with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber and Batman Forever.

With The Cable Guy (1996), Carrey tried "darker" material. The Truman Show and Man in the Moon (playing his idol, Andy Kaufman) both earned him Golden Globe Awards and were followed by such hits as The Grinch (2000), Bruce Almighty (2003) and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004).
