Kate Winslet
Kate WinsletA worldwide star by her early twenties, Kate Winslet was born in Berkshire, England, on Oct. 5, 1975, to a theatrical family. A performer since childhood, she won the lead in her first film, 1994's Heavenly Creatures, while working at a deli.

Next, she beat out more than 100 contenders for the role of Marianne Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility, resulting in her first Academy Award nomination. Winslet was on her way up, and she arrived spectacularly when she was cast as the rebellious debutante Rose in international box office champ Titanic (1997). A second Best Actress Oscar nomination made her the youngest actress to be twice nominated.

And that was only the beginning. She earned Oscar nods for Iris (2001), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) and Little Children (2006). After five Golden Globe nominations, Winslet got her first two wins the same year for Revolutionary Road and The Reader (for which she also got her first Oscar win) in 2009.
