Born in Dallas on April 8, 1966, Robin Wright Penn leveraged her good looks into a recurring role on the soap opera "Santa Barbara" that nabbed the young actress two Daytime Emmy nods and the chance to shift her talents to film. After charming audiences as the titular heroine in Rob Reiner's The Princess Bride (1987), she appeared in a mixed bag of successes and misfires, including Phil Joanou's State of Grace (1990), which paired her with her future husband, Sean Penn, for the first time. But it was her performance as Tom Hanks's lifelong crush, Jenny, in Forrest Gump (1994) that caught the eye of Hollywood critics and garnered the actress her first Golden Globe nomination.
Since then, the ever-versatile Penn has opted for a blend of mainstream and independent projects, including She's So Lovely (1997), Hurlyburly (1998), Unbreakable (2000), Nine Lives (2005) and Sorry, Haters (2005).
