Om Puri
A superstar of Indian cinema with increasing visibility in English-language films, Om Puri was born October 18, 1950, in Ambala, India, to a military family. He studied acting at the National School of Drama in New Delhi and at the Indian Film Institute.

In Bombay, the Hollywood of India, Puri's theatre background paid off with a steady stream of leading and character roles, starting with 1976's Ghashiram Kotwal. Puri would go on to make more than 100 Indian films in all genres; one of the biggest was 1981's Sadgati, for renowned director Satyajit Ray.

Puri's fame eventually reached into Western productions with memorable roles in Gandhi (1982), City of Joy (1992), Wolf (1994) and The Ghost and the Darkness (1996). Puri also received rave notices for his lead performances in two British comedies, My Son the Fanatic (1997) and East Is East (1999).
