A rising star on the Bollywood scene, Preity Zinta was born Jan. 31, 1974, in Simla, India. A model and TV news anchor while working toward her criminal psychology degree at Bombay University, Zinta became well known in India thanks to her Liril ad campaign.One of those taking notice was director Shekhar Kapoor, who announced that Zinta would be his next leading lady. Although that film never materialized, Zinta did make her debut in 1998's hit From the Heart. For that performance, she was voted Best Newcomer at India's prestigious 1998 Filmfare Awards.
Her subsequent string of hits included Soldier, Kya Kehna, Dil Chahta Hai, Koi Mil Gaya, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Dil Hai Tumhaara. She has appeared alongside the biggest names in Bollywood, such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, John Abraham and Rani Mukherjee.
