In 1970, Kapoor made his feature film debut with his father in Mera Naam Joker, playing a younger version of his father's character. His first lead role came with the widely popular teen romance Bobby in 1973, in which he portrayed the son of a wealthy businessman who falls in love with the daughter of a poor fisherman.
In the wake of Bobby's success, Kapoor went on to star in more than 100 other Indian movies, including Aap Ke Deewane (1980), Coolie (1983) and Ajooba (1991). He also stepped behind the camera to direct Aa Ab Laut Chalen in 1999 and appeared in the English-language film Don't Stop Dreaming in 2007.
