Born on Halloween night, 1963, in Alexandria, Va., Dermot Mulroney nurtured his early passions for acting and music by playing the cello in a city youth orchestra and participating in children's community theater.After a brief career in television, he made his film debut with Sunset (1988) and the Brat Pack-studded Western Young Guns (1988). He met and married actress Catherine Keener before landing roles in How to Make an American Quilt (1995) and Copycat (1995). But it was his turn as a crush-worthy groom in My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) that nudged him into the Hollywood spotlight, opening doors for roles in other romantic comedies such as The Wedding Date (2005), Must Love Dogs (2005) and The Family Stone (2005).
Despite his guy-next-door good looks, Mulroney also has a quirky side, agreeing to don a mullet and matching facial hair for the black comedy About Schmidt (2002).
