Born July 8, 1958, in Philadelphia, Kevin Bacon left home at 18 to attend the Manning Street Actor's Theater in New York City. In his first screen role, he uttered the now-famous request, "Thank you, sir. May I have another?" in 1978's Animal House, followed by a legendary death scene in Friday the 13th (1980).Bacon first attracted critics' attention playing a borderline alcoholic in Diner (1982), and his popularity soared with Footloose (1984).
Known among movie buffs for his ubiquitous links to other actors via the game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," the star has balanced his work in a variety of films, including Tremors (1990), JFK (1991), A Few Good Men (1992), Apollo 13 (1995), Wild Things (1998) and Mystic River (2003). He received widespread acclaim for his roles in The Woodsman (2004), Frost/Nixon (2008) and the 2009 TV movie Taking Chance, which earned him an Emmy nod and a Golden Globe award.
