Throughout the '80s, Madsen played the heavy in film and on TV (including the short-lived series "Our Family Honor"). After playing Susan Sarandon's understanding boyfriend in 1991's Thelma and Louise, however, Madsen began to land more varied roles, including that of a foster parent in Free Willy (1993).
More recent films for Madsen include Sin City (2005, opposite Bruce Willis) and Scary Movie 4 (2006).
