Bill Murray
Bill MurrayIn 2004, Bill Murray became the first "Saturday Night Live" original cast member to be nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, for his hilariously low-key performance as an American star stranded in Japan in Lost in Translation.

This master of deadpan dry wit was born the fifth of nine children in Wilmette, Ill., on Sept. 21, 1950. Murray began his comedy career with The National Lampoon Radio Hour and Chicago's Second City comedy troupe. In 1975, he made his screen debut as a voice in the dubbed version of the adult French cartoon Shame of the Jungle, followed by a bit part in Next Stop, Greenwich Village (1976).

Murray then built up a sizable following with such 1980s comedies as Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Scrooged and 1993's Groundhog Day but has also explored serious characters in The Razor's Edge (1984) and Rushmore (1998). He nabbed an Independent Spirit Award nod in 2010 for his supporting role in Get Low.
