Born in Palo Alto, Calif., on Sept. 10, 1953, Amy Irving first shot to fame as a tortured teen with a conscience in Brian De Palma's Carrie (1976). A few years later, her performance in Barbra Streisand's directorial debut, Yentl (1983), earned her an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actress. But her high-profile marriage to director Steven Spielberg often overshadowed her career throughout the rest of the decade, a period that included a pair of Golden Globe-nominated performances in the TV movie Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna (1986) and Crossing Delancey (1988).
The 1990s brought a string of steady film work that led to a plum role in Steven Soderbergh's Traffic (2000), the critically acclaimed 13 Conversations About One Thing (2002) and the family-oriented Tuck Everlasting (2002). Irving has also enjoyed a recurring role on NBC's Emmy-nominated drama "Alias."
