Indelibly etched in the minds of many fans as the dogged Det. Frank Pembleton on the TV series "Homicide: Life on the Street," Windy City native Andre Braugher was born July 1, 1962, the youngest of four children.Boasting an undergraduate degree in theater from Stanford University and a master's degree from New York City's Julliard School, Braugher launched his career on stage and successfully segued to films, starting with the 1989 epic Glory. He landed on "Homicide" four years later, bagging an Emmy for his work in 1998. Braugher's other notable TV appearances include the telefilm The Tuskegee Airmen (1995), while City of Angels (1998) and Frequency (2000) are among his later big-screen credits.
In 2006, Braugher won a second Emmy, this time for his turn as a criminal mastermind in the cable miniseries "Thief." He scored another nod in 2010 for his supporting work in "Men of a Certain Age."
