Angelina Jolie was born June 4, 1975, in Los Angeles. As the daughter of Oscar-winner Jon Voight, she was quickly immersed in showbiz and made her screen debut at age 5 in the comedy Lookin' to Get Out (1982).Jolie began studying acting at age 11 at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York City, after which she worked as a professional model and appeared in music videos and onstage in Los Angeles. She returned to the big screen in 1993 with Cyborg 2 and began to garner more attention with subsequent film and TV roles.
It was Jolie's outstanding turn as drug-addicted, AIDS-stricken model Gia Carangi in HBO's Gia (1998) that brought her widespread critical acclaim (and a Golden Globe). Jolie is also known for her Academy Award-winning supporting role in Girl, Interrupted (1999) and for Changeling (2008), which netted her a Best Actress Oscar nod. Her performance in 2010's The Tourist earned Jolie a Golden Globe nomination.
