Born Aug. 25, 1947, in Los Angeles to big- and small-screen stars John Archer (White Heat) and Marjorie Lord (who played Danny Thomas's wife on the TV show "Make Room for Daddy"), Anne Archer wasted no time settling into the family business after studying acting at Claremont College. She debuted opposite Jon Voight in 1973's The All-American Boy and received her first critical acclaim as Sam Elliot's ex-flame in Lifeguard. Archer may be best known to audiences as the beautiful but beleaguered wife in a series of 1980s and '90s films, including Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and -- most famously -- Fatal Attraction, an Oscar-nominated turn in which she was memorably tortured by a driven-mad Glenn Close.
Other notable performances include the Robert Altman classic Short Cuts (1993), Narrow Margin (1990) and Rules of Engagement (2000).
