A Scottish actress with a distinctive brogue and a knack for creating eccentric characters, Ashley Jensen was born on Aug. 11, 1969, in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, and studied theater just outside of Edinburgh at Queen Margaret University.Although she appeared in several BBC series, including "EastEnders," "Clocking Off" and "Eleventh Hour," Jensen's fame was largely confined to the British Isles. But after appearing as Ricky Gervais's often-oblivious sidekick in "Extras" -- the much-anticipated follow-up to his groundbreaking and award-winning sitcom, "The Office" -- the actress endeared herself to an even broader audience, earning critical accolades and an Emmy nomination.
Jensen went on to land a recurring role on the American comedy "Ugly Betty" and has also appeared in movies, including Topsy-Turvy (1999) and Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story (2005).
