Born in Chicago on Oct. 5, 1957, Bernard Jeffrey McCullough -- better known by his stage name, Bernie Mac -- discovered a knack for making people laugh and began performing stand-up while he was still in high school.He eventually gained prominence as one of "the Original Kings of Comedy" featured in the 2000 comedy film of the same name (along with fellow comedians Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Hughley and Steve Harvey), and enjoyed a prolific film and television career that brought his talents to an even broader audience. Mac's résumé includes the films Friday, Ocean's Eleven and its subsequent sequels, Bad Santa, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and Transformers.
Mac also earned a pair of Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nods as the star of his namesake sitcom, "The Bernie Mac Show" (2001-06). He died on Aug. 9, 2008, at the age of 50.
