Bill Cosby
Bill CosbyPossessing an everyman quality with an urban twist, entertainer Bill Cosby appeals to a wide audience. Born in Philadelphia July 12, 1937, Cosby set out to be a physical education instructor but discovered his untapped comedic talent while tending bar to put himself through college.

Cosby was working the club circuit when Carl Reiner caught his shtick and hooked him up with TV producer Sheldon Leonard, who signed Cosby to play opposite Robert Culp in the espionage series "I Spy." The hit show cracked racial barriers and netted Cosby Emmy Awards in 1966, '67 and '68.

In the 1970s, Cosby starred in the films Uptown Saturday Night (1974); Mother, Jugs & Speed (1976); and California Suite (1978). His biggest success came in 1984 with "The Cosby Show," which is credited with reviving the sitcom genre. Cosby was enshrined in the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame in 1994.
