Bob Dylan
Bob DylanBorn Robert Zimmerman May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minn., Bob Dylan legally changed his name to honor poet Dylan Thomas the same year the singer recorded his first album (1962). With his poetic protest songs, Dylan became a '60s cultural icon, and his popularity persisted even as his musical style shifted radically over time.

Filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker's 1967 documentary Don't Look Back chronicles Dylan's 1965 British tour, capturing him just before his first transformation (from folk prophet to rock hipster), while director Martin Scorsese's No Direction Home (2005) provides a broad overview of Dylan's career.

Dylan's other film contributions include roles in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973) -- for which he also provided the score -- Hearts of Fire (1987) and Masked and Anonymous (2003). Dylan won an Oscar in 2001 for "Things Have Changed," which he penned for the movie Wonder Boys.
