Long regarded as one of England's preeminent stage actors, Chiwetel Ejiofor gained widespread recognition for his roles in studio and independent films. Born July 10, 1974, in London to Nigerian émigrés, he entered the acting world at age 13, performing with England's National Youth Theatre.Ejiofor's screen debut in HBO's Deadly Voyage (1996) caught the eye of director Steven Spielberg, who then cast him in Amistad (1997). After starring in the indie thriller Dirty Pretty Things (2002), Ejiofor garnered a Golden Globe nod for the comedy Kinky Boots (2005) and received critical acclaim for his turns in 2006's Inside Man and Children of Men.
Ejiofor has continued to build an impressive body of work with Talk to Me (2007), American Gangster (2007), the miniseries Tsunami: The Aftermath and the made-for-TV drama Endgame (2009), the latter two earning him additional Golden Globe nominations.
