Christopher Guest (born Feb. 5, 1948, in New York City) has always had a yen for show business. After attending New York City's High School of Music and Arts, he took a brief respite from the city to attend Bard College before coming back to pay his dues on Broadway -- first in a 1970 revival of "Room Service" and, later, in "Moonchildren."But even then, he was already honing his sharp skills at comedy writing, penning articles for National Lampoon. After acting in a Rob Reiner made-for-TV movie, Guest teamed up with the director once again to write 1983's This Is Spinal Tap, in which he played the vapid rocker Nigel Tufnel.
An accomplished filmmaker, Guest (who's married to Jamie Lee Curtis) is to offbeat mockumentaries as Alfred Hitchcock is to horror movies, helming such cult hits as Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind.
Best in ShowMaster mockumentarian Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman) is at it again with this snarky send-up of canine culture that traverses the galloping neuroses surrounding one highly competitive dog show in Pennsylvania. Talented improvisers Parker Posey, Eugene Levy, Michael McKean and Catherine... Read More
This Is Spinal TapRob Reiner's cult satire about a fictional heavy metal group named Spinal Tap spoofs nearly every facet of rock 'n' roll -- from vacuous modern songwriting and half-baked album promos to pyrotechnic concerts. Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer portray the washed-up, aging British... Read More
A Mighty WindSatirist in extremis Christopher Guest aims his mockumentary lens at 1960s folk musicians -- specifically, the earnest Folksmen (portrayed by erstwhile Spinal Tappers Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer), the too-perky New Main Street Singers and former lovebirds Mitch & Mickey. As the three... Read More
