Christopher Nolan
A noted director and screenwriter who split his boyhood between London and Chicago, Christopher Nolan was born July 30, 1970, in London. Because his father is British and his mother American, he has dual citizenship.

Nolan released his first full-length feature, Following, in 1998. But it was his sophomore effort as a writer-director on Memento (2000) that really caught Hollywood's attention. Inspired by one of his brother Jonathan's short stories, Nolan crafted a disorienting psychological puzzle about a man who suffers short-term memory loss. Among other honors, the film earned Oscar nods for its screenplay and editing.

In the wake of Memento's success, Nolan signed on to the new Batman franchise, directing Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). His other credits include Insomnia (2002), The Prestige (2006) and Inception (2010), which brought him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Director.
