Audiences may know her best as Phyllis Lindstrom, the nosy neighbor on the 1970s sitcom "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," but Cloris Leachman began her career long before that show debuted, and she continues to act.Born April 30, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, Leachman was appearing on a local radio show by age 11, in local theater by age 17 and in the original Broadway run of "South Pacific" by her early 20s. During the 1950s and '60s, Leachman worked constantly, earning critical acclaim for her performances in the noir classic Kiss Me Deadly (1955) and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). She collected an Oscar in 1971 for her memorable turn in The Last Picture Show.
With a record seven Emmys in seven categories, however, no actress has commanded the small screen like Leachman -- a regular cast member on no less than 10 shows, including "The Facts of Life" and "Malcolm in the Middle."
