Born March 31, 1976, and raised in Castlerock, Dublin, Ireland, Colin Farrell is the son and nephew of former Irish football players. In his teen years, Farrell studied acting at Dublin's Gaiety School of Drama, but dropped out when he landed a role in the British miniseries "Falling for a Dancer" (1998).He was soon cast in a supporting role in Tim Roth's directing debut The War Zone (1999) and in Ordinary Decent Criminal (2000) opposite Kevin Spacey. American audiences got their first look at Farrell in the Joel Schumacher-directed Tigerland (2000), in which he played an unruly Texan heading to Vietnam.
Farrell received top notices for his work in Steven Spielberg's Minority Report and has since become adept at flexing both his physical muscles (in films such as Daredevil and S.W.A.T.) and his acting ones (in indie flicks such as Intermission and A Home at the End of the World). He gained critical notice with his first Golden Globe win for his role in the crime comedy In Bruges.
