Born in Austin, Texas, on Jan. 3, 1932, Dabney Coleman started his career with a slew of small parts on television before creating memorable recurring characters on "That Girl" (1966-67) and the soap opera parody "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" (1976-77).The 1980s brought a selection of plumb roles in Nine to Five (1980), On Golden Pond (1981), Tootsie (1982) and WarGames (1983) and a trio of lead actor Emmy nominations for the short-lived sitcoms "Buffalo Bill" (1983-84) and "The 'Slap' Maxwell Story" (1987-88). Coleman also earned Emmy nods for the made-for-television movies Baby M (1988) and Columbo: Columbo and the Murder of a Rock Star (1991) and an Emmy Award for his performance in the TV movie Sworn to Silence (1987).
Later roles include You've Got Mail (1998), Inspector Gadget (1999), Moonlight Mile (2002) and Domino (2005).
