The step-niece of cinematographer Haskell Wexler, Chicago native Daryl Hannah was born Dec. 3, 1960, and developed an early interest in films as she spent long nights watching old movies as an antidote to insomnia. After graduating from the University of Southern California, Hannah made a memorable replicant in the visually spectacular Blade Runner (1982), but it wasn't until she washed up on the shores of Manhattan as the mermaid Madison in Splash (1984) that Hannah became a true star.
During the '80s, Hannah appeared in a string of successful films -- including Steel Magnolias, Wall Street and Roxanne -- but during the '90s, her acting career was often eclipsed by her love life, which included relationships with rocker Jackson Browne and John F. Kennedy Jr. In the 2000s, she made a strong comeback in films such as Kill Bill (Vols. 1 and 2) and Casa de los Babys (2003).
