Ed McMahon
A talk-show sidekick and TV personality known for his hearty laugh and spirited interjections, Ed McMahon was born March 6, 1923, in Detroit. As a teenager, he honed his pitchman skills working as a carnival barker and later hosted radio and television programs in Philadelphia. He first met comedian and future showbiz partner Johnny Carson in 1958.

As "The Tonight Show" host and second banana, respectively, Carson and McMahon forged an iconic working relationship that lasted more than 30 years. McMahon's famous "Heeeeeeere's Johnny!" became a part of American culture, so much so that his larger-than-life persona was often parodied on sketch shows such as "Saturday Night Live."

Later in life, McMahon gained notoriety hawking Budweiser beer, hosting the televised talent contest "Star Search" and as the face of the American Family Publishing sweepstakes. He died June 23, 2009, at age 86.
